AI Fever
Do you recall that ancient viral video of a guy screaming with excitement over a double rainbow? That’s roughly the kind of emotion the latest developments in artificial intelligence evoke in me.
I can still remember trying the internet or Google for the first time. I guess it made an impression when it stuck in my mind, but it certainly wasn’t the mixture of awe, excitement, and perhaps even fear that I feel now.
I always knew there was a future in AI, but playing with ChatGPT made me realize it on a much deeper, gut level. When it spits out a particularly clever piece of code, I can’t sit still and I have to walk around the room laughing maniacally.
Imagining ChatGPT progressing from more or less funny mistakes to overwhelming dominance over the best of us, like that AI playing Go, sends shivers down my spine.
The world is going to change, and soon. For some, the idea fills them with existential dread, but I feel tremendous excitement and curiosity. A path to a huge unexplored territory full of opportunities (and risks, of course) has just opened up, and I can’t wait to venture there.
So many questions running through my head, so many ideas - I need to think by writing. Hence this blog.
